GEORGE Anyone planning a camping trip to Kolob Reservoir will now need to book a reservation for a site. My husband and I took the road a little ways past the Kolob Reservoir. Although the drive is "one way" in that you have to turn around and head back down the way you came, the views are totally different and even more beautiful on the way down. This is a great spot to relax, read a book, picnic and fish. The 5,500-acre foot reservoir built in 1956 stores water for the residents of Washington County. 92% of travelers recommend this experience. Amenities include bathhouses, activity areas, firepits, and free WiFi. Their are no assigned camp sites so this is open dry camping. Lava Point campground usually does not open until late May or June and the road into it can be muddy. Let me add Im experienced in hauling heavy loads through steep mountain grades so I know how to utilize gearing and proper breaking tactics. Kolob Canyons Road Closed Due to ice and snow, the Kolob Canyons Road is closed. Roadwork should be completed by the end of October 2015. Items that have that arisen in the wake of increased visitation involve repeated instances of trespassing as people set up campsites on private property around the reservoir, incidents of harassment and vandalism against property owners, increased garbage and human waste left in the visitors wake and other issues that led to area residents approaching the water district for help last summer.
